There’s terrific news on the weight loss front. The FDA has approved the diabetic medication semaglutide for weight loss.
Marketed as Wegovy, over 2000 patients took the medication in a high-level scientific study for over a year. They coupled this with a prudent diet, moderation in alcohol, and regular exercise and they achieved 15 to 20% weight loss. Translated, this means that an individual who weighs 200 pounds but should weigh 160 pounds, would achieve their ideal body weight in a year’s period of time.
Obesity is a huge problem in the United States and worldwide, so this is great news. What’s the bad news? Cost. Wegovy costs $1200 to $1300 a month and may not be covered by most insurances. That’s the kind of money only Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Lady Gaga and Jeff Bezos can afford.
In the meantime, if you can afford it or can get your insurance to cover it, go for it. If not, follow a prudent diet, moderate your alcohol, exercise regularly – power your path to happiness.
